Man Killed In West New York Apartment Fire: Prosecutors A 55-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire in West New York on Sunday, August 20, authorities said. At 5 a.m. North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue was notified of a fire at an apartment above 6213 Bergenline Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy smoke coming from a bedroom within the apartment, Suarez said. North Jersey Lotto Player Wins $50K The Power Ball drawing on Saturday, August 19 produced a big winner in Bergen County. One New Jersey Lottery ticket matched four of the five white balls and the Power Ball, winning the $50,000 second-tier prize. The ticket was sold at M & M Discount Wine & Liquor in Elmwood Park. Teenage Boy Killed In Newark Double Shooting: Prosecutors A 17-year-old boy was killed and a man was injured in a shooting in Newark on Thursday, August 17, authorities said. At 6:30 p.m., Newark police responded to a report of a car crash and a shooting on the 600 block of South 20th Street in Newark, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Passaic County Toddler Dies After 3-Year Cancer Battle Liam Marquez, the honorary chief of the Totowa Fire Department, died on Thursday, Aug. 17, following a three-year battle with cancer. Liam was just a newborn when he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancerous tumor that he battled for all three years of his short life. Jersey City Man Charged With Assault After Car Crash: Prosecutors A 45-year-old Jersey City man was arrested and charged after his vehicle struck another car at a high rate of speed, authorities said.
