Person Dies After Jumping From Bear Mountain Bridge
State Police said late Thursday morning that the person who jumped from the Bear Mountain Bridge early Thursday died as a result of injuries suffered in the jump. State police, who have not released the person's name or gender, said they are working to notify the next of kin, said Trooper Stephen Nevel. The incident took place around 8:35 a.m. when the person jumped from the bridge near Stony Point, state police said. Spring Valley Man Accused of Killing Volunteer Firefighter Pleads Guilty
SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- A Spring Valley man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to the New Year's morning stabbing death of volunteer firefighter Justin Speights, according to Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler. Jauntae Brown, 20, pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the death of Speights at a party in the Town of Crawford, Hoovler said. Brown is expected to receive an agreed-on sentence of from five to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 15. Police Revive Overdose Victim In Ramapo
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Ramapo police officer saved a Village of Hillburn man on Sunday who had overdosed on drugs by quickly administering Narcan.The life-saving event took place after the department received a call of an overdose victim. When the officer arrived she found a man in 20s unconscious and not breathing, Ramapo Police said. The officer quickly administered the drug, successfully reviving the man who was able to walk himself to the ambulance, police said. ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Garnerville man who owned several taxi companies and four other people were charged Wednesday in a brazen scheme to defraud state and county agencies of more than $95,000 in benefits, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Putnam Man Sought By Police Following Domestic Dispute
PUTNAM, N.Y. -- The New York State police in Brewster are asking for the public's help in locating a local man wanted for strangulation and endangering two children after he failed to show up in court, said state police. Jorge Rivera was arrested in January 2016 following a domestic violence dispute where he choked a woman in front of two young children, state police said. SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Suffern police nabbed a 16-year-old local teen on Wednesday for the armed robbery of a woman walking home from work on Monday on Park Avenue, according to Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn. Police Investigating Bank Robbery In Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Town of Poughkeepsie police are asking the public for help with information regarding a bank robbery at the Citizens Bank on Wednesday. The robbery took place at 1:17 p.m. at the bank on Vassar Road in Red Oaks Mill, police said.
