Girder Assembly On New Tappan Zee Bridge Resumes Construction on the Tappan Zee bridge will move a step closer to completion next week when workers resume girder assembly installation on the eastbound bridge. The four assemblies will be placed on two piers near the Rockland landing. The operation is unlike previous assembly efforts, utilizing both the I Lift NY super crane and floating barges to place the structural steel atop the bridge’s concrete piers. Peekskill Firefighters Quickly Douse Pickup Truck, Brush Fire PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill firefighters were able to quickly douse a truck fire on Thursday that had spread to a home and surrounding brush at a residence on Oakwood Drive. When firefighters arrived at the fire around 2:45 p.m. at 820 Oakwood Drive, they found the fire had started at the pick-up truck and quickly moved to the surrounding brush and up the outside of the home, fire officials said. Car Crashes Into Yorktown Medical Center YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- An elderly couple visiting a medical complex at 2649 Strang Blvd. around 11 a.m. Thursday crashed into one of the pillars of the building, causing damage, according to the Yorktown Police. Both the man and woman, received severe injuries and had to be cut out of their vehicle by members of the Yorktown Fire Department using the Jaws of Life, said Jackie Sullivan, assistant to the Fire Chief. Both were rushed to Westchester Medical Center in serious condition, Sullivan added.

On-Street Parking In Stony Point Suspended During Storm STONY POINT, N.Y. -- Stony Point residents know the drill, it's going to snow Thursday night so the Stony Point Police Department is reminding all that overnight parking is banned. The ban will allow snow plows enough room to clear the roadways following the storm that is predicted to dump anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 2 p.m. Friday. DOVER, N.Y. -- Firefighters with the Dover Fire Department contained a large brush fire in the vicinity of Leather Hill Road, according to fire officials. A call had gone out requesting additional manpower including brush trucks and tankers. The National Weather Service issued an elevated risk for wildfires with wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph hour possible in the area.
