Man Who Stopped For School Bus Hit, Killed By Car In Region, Police Say A man who stopped for a school bus was hit from behind by another vehicle and killed. Dennis A. Bickham, age 59, was killed around 6:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19 in Orange County, on Route 42 in Sparrowbush. According to Trooper Steven Nevel, Bickham was traveling south on Route 42, on a 2013 Honda PCX-125 scooter when he stopped for the school bus. Three Boaters Rescued Off Sandbar On Long Island Three boaters were rescued off Long Island after their boat became stuck on a sandbar. The three boaters were rescued around 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19 in the Fire Island Inlet, off Democrat Point, in Babylon. According to the Suffolk County Police, Andre Thchelischeff, the captain of a 36-foot Bennetaue sailboat, put out a distress alert on a VHF channel after the boat struck a sandbar and became disabled. Plane That Burned After Takeoff Carried Baseball Fans Bound For Playoff Game In Boston Baseball fans headed to the Red Sox-Houston ALCS Game 4 at Fenway Park in Boston escaped serious injury when the plane they were aboard crashed and caught on fire. The crash took place around 10 a.m. Central Time on Tuesday, Oct. 19, in Houston, Texas, not too far from the Houston Executive Airport, said the Texas Department of Public Safety. Teen Admits To Fatal Hudson Valley Shooting A teen has pleaded guilty to the shooting death of a man visiting the Hudson Valley. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced the guilty plea of Collyer Goodman, of Valley Cottage, on Monday, Oct. 18, for the shooting death of a Chicago man visiting Nyack last August. Goodman plead guilty to manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon for the shooting death of Darien Brydie, the District Attorney's Office said. Fairfield County Man Nabbed For Home Invasion, Sex Assault Of Child, Police Say A Fairfield County man has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a child and home invasion after an intense manhunt. The incident took place during the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 9, in Norwalk. Juvenile Charged With Manslaughter In Fairfield County Teen's Shooting Death A 16-year-old has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of another teen while a group played with a gun in Fairfield County The incident took place on Monday, Oct. 11, when 16-year-old Nigel Powell sustained a fatal gunshot wound while inside a residence on Valley Avenue in Bridgeport. Body Recovered From River In Region A man's body has been recovered from a river in Western Massachusetts. According to Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police Department, the body was found around 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, when officers were called to the 500 block of Hancock Street for a report of a body in the Mill River. Members of the Springfield Fire department recovered the body. Walsh said there were no indications of suspicious activity, and the incident is being investigated by the Detective Bureau. Duo From Region Convicted In Large-Scale Heroin, Cocaine Trafficking Conspiracy Two Western Massachusetts men have been convicted by a federal jury for their roles in a large-scale drug trafficking organization supplied by sources in Mexico and spanning at least four states. According to the US Attorney's Office, Isaac Cardona, age 34, and Rafael Cardona Sr., age 61, both of Springfield, were convicted on Monday, Oct. 18, following a nine-day trial of conspiracy to distribute to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine and one kilogram of heroin.
