Duo From Region Convicted In Large-Scale Heroin, Cocaine Trafficking Conspiracy Two Western Massachusetts men have been convicted by a federal jury for their roles in a large-scale drug trafficking organization supplied by sources in Mexico and spanning at least four states. According to the US Attorney's Office, Isaac Cardona, age 34, and Rafael Cardona Sr., age 61, both of Springfield, were convicted on Monday, Oct. 18, following a nine-day trial of conspiracy to distribute to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine and one kilogram of heroin. Suspect Nabbed For String Of Seven Commercial Burglaries In Fairfield County A Fairfield County man has been nabbed in connection with a string of seven burglaries of area businesses within the past month. Fabio Martinez-Rodriguez, age 51, of Stamford, was arrested around 3:15 a.m., Monday, Oct. 18, by police following a reported break-in at a variety store in downtown Stamford. New Details Released After Fiery Fatal Head-On Westchester Crash New details have emerged in a fiery Westchester County crash that left one person dead. It happened around 11:45 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17 in the area of Saw Mill River Road and Fieldcrest Drive in the Elmsford area of Greenburgh. According to Lieutenant Kobie Powell of the Greenburgh Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicated the vehicles involved, a Honda sedan and a fuel tanker, were engulfed in flames. CT Man Arrested For Sexual Assault A Connecticut man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman earlier this year. Gavin Armstrong, age 20, of Voluntown, in New London County, was arrested on a warrant by the Plainfield Police in Windham County for the incident which took place in June. According to the Plainfield Police, the arrest stems from disclosure on Saturday, June 12, from a woman who reported the sexual assault. Fire Breaks Out At Home Under Construction In Area A fire damaged a home under construction in the area. The fire started around 11:19 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 16 in Rockland County at 48 Briarcliff Drive in Monsey. According to the Monsey Fire Department, when firefighters arrived on the scene they found a working fire in the basement of the home. Crews were able to make a quick initial push and had the fire extinguished shortly, keeping the fire contained to the room of origin, the department said. No one was injured in the fire. One Killed In Fiery, Head-On Westchester Crash One person was killed and another injured during a head-on crash between a fuel tanker and a four-door sedan in Westchester County. The crash took place around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17, on Route 9A, also known as Saw Mill River Road, in Greenburgh. According to Lt. Area Sex Offender Who Failed To Register Found With Two Kids, Police Say A sex offender who failed to notify area authorities of his change of address was arrested in the company of two kids. The unidentified 31-year-old Ulster County resident, from Ellenville, was apprehended around 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11 on an active warrant by members of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office. Handgun Stolen In Connecticut Recovered From 17-Year-Old, Police Say A juvenile was arrested with a loaded handgun stolen out of Connecticut after being stopped by officers in Western Massachusetts. The 17-year-old teen boy was stopped around 10:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15, when members of the Springfield Police Department in Hampden County spotted him remove the firearm from his sweatshirt pocket and then put it back in. Man Charged With Hate Crime, Making Threats In Fairfield County A Fairfield County man has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly accosted a masonry worker and yelled racist language at the man.
