Neighbors' Complaint Leads To Arrest Of Two Western Mass Men For Drugs, Guns, Police Say
Two men have been arrested for alleged possession of drugs and guns after complaints from their Western Massachusetts neighbors.
Jonathan Torres and Antonio Marin, both of Springfield, were arrested around 2:20 p.m., Friday, July 16, while officers were addressing numerous citizens’ complaints about drug and gun activity as well as loitering on Fernwold Street in Springfield, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police Department.

Brothers From NY ID'd As Victims In Florida Condo Collapse
A pair of brothers who are Long Island natives have been identified as two of the victims of the condo collapse n Surfside, Florida.
Dr. Brad Cohen, a Suffolk County native, from Dix Hills, was confirmed dead by the Miami-Dade Police on Friday, July 16. His body was found on Wednesday, July 7, the department said.
His brother, Dr. Gary Cohen, age 58, who was also killed in the Tuesday, June 24 collapse, was identified earlier in the week.

Teen Nabbed For Stealing Two Vehicles, Crashing BMW, In Fairfield County, Police Say
A man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a Fairfield County home and stealing keys to a BMW, then stealing the vehicle and crashing it.
Charles Wood Wright, age 18, of New Canaan, was arrested on Sunday, July 11, following the crash which place on Heritage Hill Road, said the New Canaan Police.
According to police, officers responded to a crash involving a BMW which had struck a tree located off the road. When officers arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied and heavily damaged.

Man, Woman Nabbed In Western Mass In Stolen Vehicle, Police Say
Two people were arrested in Western Massachusetts in connection with an alleged stolen vehicle.
Herbert Smith, age 46, of Worcester, and Rachel Keating, age 34, of Springfield, were arrested on Friday, July 16, after police received a GPS location on a vehicle in Ludlow that had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
When officers arrived on the scene of where the vehicle was located a the Big Y Plaza, Smith and Keating were inside the vehicle, the Ludlow Police said.
Following an investigation, both were arrested for theft of the vehicle, police said.

Tornado Touches Down In Connecticut Leaving Trail Of Downed Trees, Destroyed Vehicles
A tornado touched down in Connecticut during a severe thunderstorm leaving behind damaged trees, missing shingles, and two destroyed vehicles.
The tornado rated an EF-0 (the weakest of the five levels on the Enhanced Fujita Scale), touched between 6:11 p.m. and 6:18 p.m., Sunday, July 18, in the Town of Somers, located in Tolland County near the Massachusetts border, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado was first reported by amateur radio operators on a tip from a trained Skywarn Weather Spotter, the service said.

Long Island Man Charged With DWI After Passenger Injured In Fiery Crash, Police Say
A Long Island man has been arrested for alleged DWI following an early morning crash that caused the vehicle to burst into flames and left a woman seriously injured.
The crash took place around 3 a.m., Monday, July 19, in Montauk on Route 27 (Montauk Highway), said Det. Sgt. Daniel Toia with the Town of East Hampton Police Department.
According to Toia, Wilme Chan-Herrera, age 26, of Mastic, was driving a 2019 GMC Terrain westbound on Montauk Highway when he lost control of the vehicle, striking a guard rail and a tree.

One Killed After Ford F-150 Hits Curb, Overturns In Fairfield County
A Fairfield County resident died after losing control of his pickup truck and spinning across several lanes of traffic before hitting a curb and flipping over, becoming pinned underneath.
The crash took place around 12:32 a.m., Monday, July 19, on Washington Boulevard in Stamford, said Sgt. Jefferey Booth.
According to Booth, a 2005 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Washington Boulevard, just north of the intersection with Bridge Street.

Baby Giant Anteater Born At Fairfield County’s Beardsley Zoo
For the third time in zoo history, a giant anteater has been born at the Beardsley Zoo in Fairfield County.
The baby was born at the Bridgeport zoo on Tuesday, June 15 after a 175-day gestation period, the baby weighed 4.3 pounds at nine days old, and 6.1 pounds at 23 days old on Thursday, July 8, said Beardsley Zoo officials.
The proud parents are third-time dad, E.O., and fourth-time mom, Pana.
The pair was brought to Connecticut’s only zoo with the hopes of successful breeding, which occurred for the first time in 2016.
