Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Woman, 25, Struck, Killed By Freight Train In Bergenfield A 25-year-old woman was struck and killed overnight Tuesday by a freight train in Bergenfield. Authorities suspect suicide, Bergenfield Police Lt. William Duran said. The woman was struck by a northbound CSX train headed to New York State around 12:10 a.m. just south of the New Bridge Road crossing. The locomotive stopped 300 feet before the Clinton Avenue crossing. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Bergenfield police responded along with CSX railroad police and representatives and the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification, which collected evidence.

Accused Wayne Bank Robber, 69, Captured In Little Falls, Suspected In Pequannock Holdup Local police captured a Little Falls man who they said robbed a Wayne bank hours earlier -- and is suspected in another bank job last Thursday in Pequannock. Englewood PD: 80-Something Pedestrian Struck, 80-Something Woman Driving A pedestrian in his 80s was struck by a car driven by a woman in her 80s Monday afternoon in Englewood, authorities said. The pedestrian was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center with a leg injury after being struck by a Honda Accord while crossing West Palisade Avenue near Armory Street shortly before 2 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. Pro Dirt Bike Racer, 20, Remains Critical After Meadowlands Crash, NJ State Police Report UPDATE: A 20-year-old professional dirt bike rider remained in critical condition Monday at Hackensack University Medical Center following a weekend crash during a race at the Meadowlands. Allendale Landscape Company Driver Pinned In Route 17 Crash In Paramus UPDATE: Firefighters freed an Allendale landscape company driver whose leg was pinned when his truck landed on its side in a Monday afternoon crash on Route 17 in Paramus. Police: Landscaper Trying To Burn Beehive Damages Carlstadt Fabric Company Warehouse A landscaper trying to burn out a beehive using gasoline started a fire at a Carlstadt fabric company, authorities said.
