Nutley Hit-Run Victim ID'd As 22-Year-Old Paterson Resident: 'Wonderful Human Being' A 22-year-old Paterson resident was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Nutley on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 14, authorities said. At 7 p.m., police were notified of a crash on the 100 block of Milton Avenue near the Garden State Parkway overpass, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Nutley Police Chief Thomas Strumolo said. Wiston Perlaza was taken to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and pronounced dead soon after, Stephens and Strumolo said. Business Partner Dies By Suicide In Jersey City Mall: Officials A 45-year-old man hanged himself at the Hudson Mall in Jersey City on Tuesday, Feb. 13, authorities said. The man, who has not been identified by police, was a partner in the Rieval thrift store inside the mall, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. He was discovered by his business partners, Wallace-Scalfione said. An apparent suicide note was left behind by the man, Wallace-Scalfione said. Arrest Made Following 2022 Hit-Run Pedestrian Crash In Jersey City: Prosecutor A 42-year-old Jersey City man was arrested and charged on Wednesday, Feb. 14 with striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene in December 2022, authorities said. On Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022 at 4:35 p.m., Jersey City Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck at Griffith Street and Sherman Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Valentine's Day Crash Leaves One Dead In Essex County (Updated) UPDATE: The victim has been ID'ed as 22-year-old Wiston Perlaza. One person was killed in a motor vehicle crash in Nutley on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 14, police said. The hit-and-run motor vehicle crash occurred at 7 p.m. at Milton Avenue at the Garden State Parkway overpass, Nutley police said. Nutley police and the Essex County Prosecutors Office are working to identify the perpetrator, officers said. The victim has not been identified. Monmouth County Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Prosecutors A 29-year-old Howell man was fatally shot in Newark on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 13, authorities said. At 9 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 900 block of South 16th Street in Newark and found Tyquane Steed inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. ATV Driver Plowing Snow Killed In Plunge Down Embankment: Butler Police A 69-year-old woman was killed when the ATV she was using to plow snow went down an embankment on Tuesday, Feb. 13, Butler police said. Police in Butler responded to a residence on Washington Street on a report of an unresponsive woman under an ATV. Upon arrival, police discovered the woman had been plowing the snow in her driveway when her ATV went down an embankment in the back of the property. Her family had attempted resuscitation and despite resuscitation attempts by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Pickleball Pandemonium: Largest Facility In NJ Opening In Passaic County The fast growing sport that has gripped the country is coming to Passaic County next year. Sportime Pickleball announced it has signed a lease to open Sportime Pickleball Wayne at Willowbrook Plaza in the spring of 2025. Sportime said this will be the largest facility in the state. The 50,000 square foot space will include 20 indoor courts, a stadium court, a concession stand and spaces for events, including national tournaments. Sportime said it is looking to open more locations in the Garden State.

Two Injured In Warren County House Fire: Police Two people were injured in a house fire in Washington Township on the evening of Monday, Feb. 12, authorities said. At 9:29 p.m., first responders responded to a residence on the 400 block of E. Washington Avenue for a structure fire, Washington Township police said. Upon arrival, flames and heavy smoke conditions were observed and soon the home was fully engulfed, police said. Two people had self evacuated prior to arrival, police said.
