Winner! Lyndhurst Powerball Player Gets $50K It was quite the day to be a Powerball player in North Jersey. Two Powerball tickets sold in North Jersey, one in Bergen County and the other in Essex County, matched four of five numbers plus the red powerball, winning $50,000 in the drawing held on Wednesday, Dec. 20. The tickets were sold at Shop Rite in Lyndhurst and Amazonia Multiservice in Newark. The winning numbers were 27, 35, 41, 56, 60 and the red powerball was 16.

Continued Flooding Closes Paterson Schools For Rest Of Week Students at Paterson Public Schools will not be returning to school until next year. The school district announced schools will be closed Thursday, Dec. 21 and Friday, Dec. 22 as the city continues to deal with the devastation of weekend flooding.  Schools have been closed since Tuesday, Dec. 19, following an early dismissal on Monday, Dec. 18, as numerous streets in the city were closed due to several inches of accumulated water. School will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The district said the school calendar will be updated to ensure students get 180 days of instruction.

Newark Woman Fatally Struck By Vehicle Driven By 70-Year-Old: Summit PD A 66-year-old Newark woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Summit on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 20, police said. At 6:51 a.m. police responded to River Road, between Morris Avenue and Plain Street, and found the woman struck by a 2018 Toyota Tundra, driven by a 70-year-old Hopatcong man.  The woman was pronounced dead after being transferred to Overlook Medical Center.  The incident is under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau. At 5:20 p.m., Jersey City police responded to Route 440 and Danforth Avenue on a report of a pedestrian struck, where they found the lifeless body of Billiah Mogusu near the intersection, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Support Swells For Dying Pascack Valley Teen Lamont "LJ" Alston, a 17-year-old senior at Pascack Valley High School, has been placed in hospice care after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma. At 2:20 p.m., the boy arrived at Jersey City Medical Center in a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the upper body, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.
