Belleville Man Gunned Down In Newark A 38-year-old Belleville man was shot and killed this weekend in Newark, authorities said. Omar Rivera was shot on the 300 block of North 7th Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 4 a.m. The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. Calls will be kept confidential.

Camelback Skier, 25, Airlifted In Double Black Diamond Crash A 25-year-old skier was flown to the hospital after an accident at the Camelback Resort this weekend, according to resort officials and WFMZ. The skier was "unconscious and bleeding from the head" after the apparent crash on Sunday, Jan. 15, the news outlet said. A spokesperson for the Tannersville resort said only that the incident occurred in the woods near Asp trail, a double black diamond trail. Whale Suffered Tragic Accident Before Washing Up On Jersey Shore, Experts Say A 32-foot whale had been actively feeding and was in good condition before she washed up last week on the Jersey Shore with blunt-force injuries, leading experts to believe she had been struck by a boat. Hunter Mistakenly Kills PA Family's Wolf-Like Dog A hunter who mistakenly killed a Pennsylvania family's dog thinking he was a coyote will not face charges, state officials tell the Philadelphia Inquirer. Decomposing Body Found In Mattress In DelCo: Report A decomposing body inside of a mattress was found overnight in Delaware County overnight, 6abc reports. Paramedics called to the 7000 block of Greenwood Avenue near Church Lane in Upper Darby around midnight found the woman's body in a back alley behind a row of twin homes, the outlet said. Upstairs Neighbor Killed In Hudson County Apartment Fire A 72-year-old man died in a Secaucus fire late Sunday, Jan. 15, authorities said. John Meisenburg was found inside of a third floor unit after a fire broke out in a second floor unit at caround 11:50 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Man Kills Himself In Berks Domestic Disturbance That Brought Major Police Presence A man took his own life during a domestic disturbance involving a female that brought a major police response to the scene in Berks County over the weekend. Wawa Shootout: Police Release Details In Terrifying Mercer County Incident Police have release some details in a shootout that occurred inside of a Mercer County Wawa store early Sunday, Jan. 15. An argument broke out between patrons at the Silvia Street store in Ewing around 3:25 a.m., at which point workers asked them to leave, police said. One person stayed inside of the store and shot at someone who had left but was coming back inside, police said. The person re-entering returned fire, however, no one was struck. Speeding Car Thief Kills 33-Year-Old Driver In Philadelphia: Police A 33-year-old man died after being struck by a speeding, stolen vehicle Saturday, Jan. 14 in Philadelphia, authorities said. Charges were pending as of Sunday for the driver of the 2020 Kia Optima, that was heading north on 5th Street when it struck a 2016 Toyota Carolla on Lehigh Avenue around 9:50 p.m., a spokesperson for the city's police department said. The Toyota driver was entrapped and pronounced dead at the scene at 10 p.m., while the occupants of the Optima were hospitalized at Temple with minor injuries.
