First-Graders Watch Chicks Hatch In Chappaqua Elementary Schools
CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- First graders in the Chappaqua District’s three elementary schools have waited three weeks for chicks to hatch from eggs following a 21-day incubation period.
The students lesson integrated science, math, communication skills, arts, and social studies through hands-on activities, such as preparing the eggs, setting up the incubator, recording progress, turning eggs, and candling.
Candling involves shining a bright light into the egg, illuminating its contents to learn which of the chickens’ eggs are fertile and will hatch into baby chicks. Students have now moved on to p…

Join Waldwick Cookbook Club, Whip Up New Dishes
WALDWICK, N.Y. -- "Whipped Up" is a cookbook book club for anyone who loves to cook, browse through cookbooks, try out new recipes, likes ethnic foods, and doesn't know what to do with leftovers.The monthly group meets at the Waldwick Library.
On June 7, at 7 p.m., the club will focus on "Smitten Kitchen Cookbook" by Deb Perelman. Members select a recipe to make during the club meeting.
Light refreshments will be available.

Daisy Jopling Seeks Student Musicians For Fall Concert
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Auditions have been announced for student musicians to perform with violinist Daisy Jopling at her September concert “Awakening” at the Paramount Hudson Valley in Peekskill.The concert is Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale June 1.
Musicians, 13 to 21, who play violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, and percussion are eligible to try out and appear on a professional stage with performers.
Jopling is looking for 23 student musicians. The final day of auditions is Tuesday, June 7 from noon to 5 p.m.…
