HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Happy birthday to Hyde Park's Brett Wilkinson. Wilkinson, who was born May 2, 1976, in Hyde Park, turns 40 today. He was a former member of the U.S. National Rowing Team. Wilkinson began his rowing career at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School and later rowed for Bucknell University. After college, he was a member of the Potomac Boat Club in Washington, D.C., where he qualified for the U.S. National Rowing Team. IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Fifth-graders at Main Street School deepened their understanding of the history and culture of the Western Hemisphere when they participated in the annual Mesoamerica Day on April 29. The students worked in groups to solve problems and research the history of the ancient civilizations of the Aztec, Incan and Mayan people. Pelham Middle School Students Welcome Holocaust Survivor.
PELHAM, N.Y. -- Pelham Middle School eighth-graders recently welcomed Betty Knoop, a survivor of the Holocaust, to their school.Knoop's visit was part of their Holocaust unit studied in both English and Social Studies. Koop, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, was eight-years-old when the Germans invaded her country. Her whole family was arrested and sent to camp Westerbork, and on to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. She was liberated by the Russians and returned to Amsterdam.
