Hoff-Barthelson Music School Offers Double Reed Making Workshop
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- A workshop for making reeds for the bassoon and oboe is being offered Saturday, Jan. 9 at Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale.Faculty members Elizabeth Condon (oboe) and Janet Grice (bassoon) will teach beginners to advanced students how to make and adjust reeds and learn more about the idiosyncrasies of the two instruments. The free workshop will cover how to construct, scrape and shape reeds to suit your needs. The tours provide a chance for area residents to get to know this National Historic and Natural Landmark in Bergen County, which has more than 30 miles of hiking trails within its borders. Brookfield Student Charged For 'Alarming' Message Left At School
BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- A note found near the library at Brookfield High School described as "disturbing and alarming" led to the arrest of a student on Dec. 14, according to The News-Times. The 17-year-old student was charged by town police with breach of peace, according to the article. The note was “not a credible threat to the school," police told The News-Times. YONKERS, N.Y. -- Meet Ginger. She's been badly neglected and severely abused. Both of her front legs have been broken as well as a back leg. Ginger was kept in a cage for the last seven months because of the arrival of a new baby. Ginger is currently in the care of Yonkers Specialty Center where she is being treated for anemia and dehydration. She will be needing several surgeries as part of her long-term treatment.
