Drowned Firefighter Mark Batista Of Teaneck 'Always Put Family First' Mark Batista's family was his whole world. Batista, a firefighter for the FDNY, died while trying to save his daughter from drowning on Friday, June 9. Batista, 39, went into the waters off the Sylvania Avenue beach around 8:30 a.m. in an effort to save her, when she got caught in the rough surf. The girl was saved by rescuers but Batista's body wasn't found until nearly 10 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the hospital, despite life-saving efforts, police said. Jersey City Man Gets 18 Years in Prison For Fatal Stabbing: Prosecutors Steven Bardsley, a 57-year-old Jersey City resident, was sentenced to 18 years in state prison on Friday, June 9 for fatally stabbing a man in the neck in July 2021, authorities said. On July 24, 2021, Jersey City Police responded to 151 Cambridge Ave. where they found Steven Bochman stabbed in the neck, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Man Stabbed Dead Outside Bar In Newark: Prosecutors A 26-year-old Newark man was fatally stabbed outside of a bar in Newark early Saturday morning, according to authorities and Daily Voice sources. According to sources, Ferando Michael Villa Valdivieso was standing outside El Refugio Bar on Bloomfield Avenue when a fight escalated and he was hit in the head. Car Collides With Telephone Pole, Two Kids Injured: Rahway Police Two juveniles were injured after a car crashed into a telephone pole in Rahway on the afternoon of Friday, June 9, authorities said.
