17 Displaced In Massive Jersey City Fire (Update) Three homes were damaged and 17 people were displaced following a four-alarm fire in Jersey City on Wednesday, April 5. Jersey City Men Pull Switcheroo In Attempt To Milk Money Out Of Mercedes Benz Crash: Prosecutor Two Jersey City men have been charged with insurance fraud after prosecutors claim they tried to pull a switcheroo following a car crash in 2022. Shelton Sutton and Kevin London, both 36, were arrested following an investigation from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Insurance Fraud Unit. Sutton was arrested on Monday, April 3, while London was arrested back in February, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Newark Student Slashed At School: Police A 12-year-old boy was slashed in the cheek at a Newark elementary school on Tuesday, April 4, according to police. The boy was slashed following an altercation with another child at Roberto Clemente Elementary School at 257 Summer Ave, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The injured boy was transported to University Hospital and is in stable condition, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Newark Airport Worker Found With Handgun, TSA Says A man who worked at Newark Liberty International Airport was arrested after he was stopped by Transportation Security Administration officers with a loaded handgun in his backpack on Saturday, April 1. The TSA did not identify the man. After spotting the gun in an X-ray machine in Terminal C, TSA officers alerted Port Authority Police who confiscated the weapon, according to the TSA. The man's employee badge was confiscated and he is no longer employed at the airport, according to the TSA. Newark Man Convicted In Fatal Stabbing A 57-year-old Newark man was convicted of aggravated manslaughter for fatally stabbing another man in July 2020. Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens announced the jury's conviction of Lance Boone on Friday, March 31. Boone was panhandling on Market Street and McCarter Highway when he got into an altercation with Rashon Williams, a 43-year-old Newark resident, who was also panhandling in the area, Stephens said. Boone then used a kitchen knife to fatally stab Williams in the heart, Stephens said. Boone faces up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison when he is sentenced in June.
