More Than 60K NJ Families Now Eligible For Free School Meals A new law will make thousands of New Jersey students newly eligible for free school lunches and breakfasts. Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law on Tuesday, Jan. 16, expanding the eligibility for free meals to more than 60,000 additional families. According to the Working Class Families Anti-Hunger Act, public and non-public schools in the National School Lunch Program or federal School Breakfast Program will provide meals to students in households with an income of up to 224 percent of the federal poverty level. NJ Charity Store Needs Donations After 'Devastating' Fire A nonprofit thrift store in Egg Harbor Township is recovering after it lost all of its merchandise in a fire on Monday, Jan. 15. Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia said a suspicious fire broke out in the charity store on Black Horse Pike. No one was injured in the fire. NJ Athlete Katelyn Morales, 14, Dies After Cancer Battle A Monmouth County community is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old girl after a valiant cancer battle. An obituary said 14-year-old Katelyn Morales of Howell died on Wednesday, Jan. 10. She was in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with lymphoma. Malnourished Baby Seal Rescued After 400-Mile Journey To Jersey Shore An Atlantic County animal rehabilitation center is helping a baby seal recover after it was found on a beach in Monmouth County. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said a male grey seal pup was first seen resting on a beach in Sea Bright late in the afternoon on Thursday, Jan. 11. Couple Killed In Parkway Crash With Snowplow A man and woman from Lakewood were killed after crashing into a snowplow truck on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County, authorities said. State police said an SUV driven by 29-year-old Eliyahu Naydavoud was heading north on the parkway in Tinton Falls around 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15.
