An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Ossining Senior A National Merit Scholarship Finalist OSSINING, N.Y. --Adriana Scanteianu, a senior at Ossining High School, has been selected as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Scanteianu is one of 15,000 finalists competing for 7,400 scholarships worth $33 million. Scanteianu initially qualified because of a high score on her PSATs. At Ossining, Scanteianu has been recognized for her achievements in the Ossining Science Research Program. Rhinebeck Teen Publishes Debut Fantasy Novel RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Erin Forbes, a 17-year-old Rhinebeck resident, is already a published author. Forbes is the author of "Fire and Ice: The Elementals", a fantasy young adult novel she self-published on Amazon last year. Yorktown's Scavino, Trump Aide, Joins Battle Between TV Commentators Westchester native Dan Scavino, the White House Social Media Director, took to Twitter to proclaim that Sean Hannity "owned" New Canaan's Joe Scarborough during a recent Twitter spat of network news commentators that involved four people and three cable news networks. Astorino Rejects Religious Test In Visit To Yonkers Islamic School WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- County Executive Rob Astorino said while he supports careful screenings of anyone coming to the United States, he opposes a religious test to determine who enters the country. Astorino made his remarks to about 200 Muslim Americans during a visit to the Andalusia School, an Islamic School in Yonkers. Anderson Center Student Excited To Skate In Special Olympics Jonathan Peterson, a 20-year-old student at the Anderson Center For Autism in Staatsburg, has found his true calling. Jonathan will be skating Feb. 18 in the 2017 New York State Winter Special Olympics at the McCann Ice Arena between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Jonathan has been skating since he was enrolled at the Anderson Center in Feb. 2012. Anna LaFerriere, the recreation program coordinator at Anderson, introduced Jonathan to the ice as part of a therapeutic ice skating program. Jonathan had never skated before. New Rhinebeck Pet Store Delights Dogs, Owners RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Since it opened last April, a pet store in Rhinebeck has committed to going local. Dexter's Dog Boutique opened last April in the village. The store is run by Eric and Dana Peterson who decided to open the store after Dana got tired of working in the corporate world. Furnace Woods Students Bring Love To Montrose Vets CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- The 4th and 5th-grade students at Furnace Woods Elementary School will have very special valentines this year. Croton-Harmon Wrestling Captures League Title CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- On the mats, the Croton-Harmon Tigers are number one. Croton-Harmon's varsity wrestling team captured the league title, winning their final six matches and eight of its last nine dual meets.
