Pleasantville Superintendent Reacts To Reduced State Testing PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Superintendents are reacting positively to an announcement that the state is looking to eliminate some standardized tests. According to a report in LoHud, John King, State Education Commissioner, is telling school superintendents the Board of Regents is looking to eliminate the eighth-grade math test. The Board of Regents is also considering eliminating other tests. King said grants will be provided to help school districts reduce local standardized tests. Ossining Boat & Canoe Club Unlocked For Repairs OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Town of Ossining has allowed the Ossining Boat & Canoe Club (OBCC) to be open for repairs. The club was locked on Oct. 31 after town officials cited more than 20 violations in the town-owned building on the Hudson River at Engel Park. It was unlocked by the town on Saturday, Nov. 9. As part of the town's recently signed license agreement with the club, the town building inspector is required to check on the building on a monthly basis, Town Supervisor Susan Donnelly said. Croton Teen Charged With Filming Patrons At Health Club CROTON, N.Y. -- The Croton teenager charged for allegedly filming patrons in various states of undress in the locker room and shower area of a local health club has plans for Valentine's Day. Daniel "Max" Winsten, 19, will be next appearing in court on Feb. 14, according to the Town of Cortlandt Court. Winsten was charged with Unlawful Surveillance in the Second Degree, a Class "E" Felony, and Possessing an Obscene Performance by a Child, also a Class "E" Felony. Peekskill Honors Those Who Served In Monument Park Ceremony PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The City of Peekskill offered a small debt of gratitude that it can never repay on Monday. The city held its annual Veterans Day ceremony at Monument Park, thanking those who served with words and music. Hundreds came out to hear patriotic music from the Peekskill High School band, Tim Murphy, play "Amazing Grace" on his bagpipes and Joe Brady perform "Arlington," a song by Trace Adkins. Ossining Honors Veterans Who Answered The Call OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Village of Ossining held its annual Veterans Day ceremony Monday, thanking those for their service. The village held a memorial mass at St. Augustine Church on North Highland Avenue before having a memorial service at Nelson Park on South Highland Ave in honor of its veterans. Schiliro Celebrates North Castle Supervisor Win ARMONK, N.Y. -- Michael Schiliro is now the man in charge in North Castle. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat Schiliro, a councilman, defeated incumbent Republican Howard Arden to become North Castle Town Supervisor, 56 percent to 44 percent. Walter Panas High School Student Trains Guiding Eyes Dog CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Thanks to the work of Cortlandt teenager Alyssa Repetto, someone out there will have the guide dog they need. Repetto, a 17-year-old student at Walter Panas High School, has been training a guide dog for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown. The Cortlandt resident has been working with her dog Fiesta, a black Labrador Retriever, since Fiesta was nine weeks old and will have her for about a year.
