Pleasantville Students Gain National Merit Semifinals PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Pleasantville High School students Laura Chapman and Sophie Dora Tulchin are among the approximately 16,000 seniors nationwide who have attained semifinalist status in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Chapman and Tulchin are now eligible to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be awarded in the spring. Fairfield Police Arrest Bridgeport Man On Drug, Weapons Charges FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield police arrested a Bridgeport man on multiple charges Thursday after a traffic stop turned up cocaine packaged for sale and a club, police said. Officers stopped a car driven by Christian H. Avellino on Grasmere Avenue in Fairfield because it appeared to be unregistered, according to police. Pumpkin Patch preschool is located nearby. Avellino was found to be in possession of cocaine packaged ready for sale, THC oil and a blackjacklike club, police said. JCC On Hudson Begins Work On New Center In Tarrytown TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The JCC on the Hudson broke ground Thursday on a new 6.6-acre community campus in Tarrytown. It will be the first time in 40 years that a new Jewish Community Center will be constructed in Westchester County. Westport Reminds Residents To Practice Water Conservation WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe is encouraging residents to voluntarily conserve water and stop non-essential outdoor water use.
