HAWTHORNE, N.Y. -- A staff member at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls in Westchester said two fights last week are the results of administrative cuts leading to frustrated students and overwhelmed employees, according to News 12. MONTGOMERY, N.Y. -- Nicole and Michael Restuccia wanted to make their son Joel's eighth birthday special so when it looked like a lot of Joel's friends wouldn't be able to make it to his surprise birthday, Nicole took a chance and posted a message on Facebook, according to Time Warner Cable News. Substation Issue Caused Poughkeepsie Power Outage
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A problem in a substation caused a power outage lasting about an hour in Poughkeepsie on Friday night, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. County Executive Molinaro Joins Poughkeepsie Students' Field Trip
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- County Executive Marc Molinaro joined Krieger Elementary School fifth= grade students on an educational field trip last week. The field trip took place at Beacon's Long Dock Park and focused on the Hudson River. The city made a video about the experience which can be seen on YouTube. Krieger Elementary School is at 265 Hooker Ave. in Poughkeepsie.

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Concordia College posthumously appointed John Bahr emeritus professor of English in recognition of his 39 years of distinguished service to the College, the Church, and the community at its 135th Commencement Exercises. Fire Chief Says Fire At Hudson River Psychiatric Center Was Arson
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A fire at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center was determined to be intentionally set, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Fairview Fire District and neighboring agencies were dispatched to the fire at 7:09 p.m. last Wednesday, and discovered that the Cheney Building had an active fire inside the basement, according to the report. The fire was declared under control at 7:47 p.m. with no reported injuries, the report said. EFG/DRA Heritage, LLC, has plans to develop the 156-acre psychiatric site. City Of Poughkeepsie Fire Department Testing Fire Hyrdrants
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department is servicing and testing the city fire hydrant system. This system is directly linked to the drinking water supply. During the testing period, the water is safe, but should be run until it is clear. Change Could Be Coming To New York State Alcohol Laws
State lawmakers are considering changing the law that prohibits restaurants from selling alcohol before noon on Sundays, commonly known as a blue law, allowing restaurants to sell alcohol starting at 8 a.m., according to Time Warner Cable News.
