Sen. Latimer, Assemblywoman Mayer Offer Budget Forum In Yonkers YONKERS, N.Y. -- State Sen. George Latimer, D-Westchester, and Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, D-Yonkers, will hold a joint forum to get public input on the proposed 2016-17 state budget. Scarsdale School Board Forums Examine Building Needs SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The Scarsdale Board of Education will hold two public forums featuring presentations by the district architects, KG and D: one on the building conditions survey they prepared recently; and the other on the Greenacres Building Committee report, as part of preliminary discussions for a proposed bond referendum in May 2017. These public forums are scheduled for Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at Greenacres Elementary School and Tuesday, March 15, at 9 a.m. at Scarsdale High School in the auditorium.

New York Special Oympics Winter Games Come To Hudson Valley SOUTHWEST DUTCHESS, N.Y. -- The Hudson Valley region hosts the New York State Special Olympics Winter Games for the first time ever from Feb. 19 to 21. Opening ceremonies will be held on Feb. 19 with a parade of athletes, speeches and entertainment at 8 p.m. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie. Croton-Harmon Students Enjoy Global School Play Day CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School in Croton-on-Hudson enjoyed at least one hour of uninstructed play time, in addition to recess, on Feb. 3 as part of Global School Play Day, joining more than 177,000 other students from around the world. The day was an entirely unplugged one. Students steered clear of all electronics and screens in favor of toys like board games, Legos and jigsaw puzzles. The school’s eldest students, in grades two through four, were also invited to bring in their favorite toys from home to share with classmates throughout the day. …

White Plains Science Students Recognized WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --White Plains High School’s Science Research Program had four winners at last Saturday’s Westchester-Rockland Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. This annual competition attracts hundreds of students from approximately 30 different high schools in the two counties.
