Candlewood Lake Takes Part In Zebra Mussel Research BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- This weekend is Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Weekend in Connecticut and residents are urged to do their part in preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species. Zebra mussels are an aquatic invasive that have not yet been found in Candlewood Lake, but they have been found throughout much of the Housatonic River along with other nearby bodies of water. Candlewood Lake Authority announced local research aimed to help prevent the spread of zebra mussels from one waterbody to another. Arecco has been appointed interim administrator of Bella House at Greenwich High School, effective immediately, Interim Superintendent of Schools Salvatore Corda announced. Rep. Esty Helps Newtown Veteran Obtain State Benefits NEWTOWN, Conn. -- U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-5th District) came to the aid of Newtown resident Daniel Hayes Jr. to resolve a mistake on his Army discharge paperwork that was preventing him from receiving some of his earned veteran's benefits. Wilton Police Offer Phone Calls To Check On Residents In Need WILTON, Conn. -- Wilton Police are currently accepting new subscribers to the "Are You OK" (RUOK) system to check in on the elderly and disabled.The system is available to all Wilton residents over the age of 60, residents who are homebound and the medically disabled. They will receive a daily call at the same time each day asking “Are you OK today?” A simple response tells the automated system that there is no need for follow up contact.
