Rose Granucci, 85, Longtime Rye Resident RYE, N.Y. -- Rose Granucci, a longtime resident of Rye died Sunday, July 19. She was 85. Granucci was born in Highland, N.Y., on Oct. 1, 1929, to Salvatore and Fortunata (Marino) Ciappetta. Her husband, Alfred Granucci, died in 1990. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Granucci. Westchester Man Gets 44-Month Sentence In Tax Scam YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers man was sentenced Wednesday to 44 months in prison for his part in a scheme to cash more than $400,000 in fraudulently obtained federal income tax refund checks, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York said.  U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Edwin Mejia, 31, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of public funds and one count of aggravated identity theft in December before U.S. District Judge Paul A. Dogs, Reptiles Rescued From Home By SPCA Of Westchester PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- The Humane Law Enforcement Unit of the SPCA of Westchester removed 35 reptiles, including turtles, bearded dragons, chameleons and leopard geckos, from a residence in Port Chester after determining that the animals were not being cared for properly and that their owners were out of the country. The Port Chester Police Department, responding to an anonymous complaint concerning dogs at 144 Smith St., found 20 dogs inside and outside the residence.
