Martha Schiller, Longtime Port Chester Resident PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Martha Schiller died at her at home on Thursday, June 4, after a brief illness. She was a mother who also worked outside the home in the 1950s and was active in her synagogue and her community in Port Chester for more than 60 years. She is survived by her daughter, Kathi; her son, Robert; her daughter-in-law, Nilou; her grandchildren, Zak, Mina and Sahm; and a brother, Irv. Donations can be given in her memory to the Congregation KTI, Port Chester, NY 10573.

Martin Edward Hopkins, 81, Bronxville Resident BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Martin Edward Hopkins, one of the original inventors of the first reduced instruction set computer, died of complications of Parkinson's disease on Wednesday, June 3, at his home in Bronxville. He was 81 years old. Hopkins served as corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated cum laude from Amherst College with a degree in philosophy. An IBM Fellow, Hopkins first learned about programming computers when they filled an entire room. Faiella was born in Bridgeport on Nov. 20, 1922, to Salvatore and Anna Cardinale Faiella. He was a World War II veteran who served in 1945 in France, Belgium and Germany. He was the recipient of several medals, including the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart. He earned the rank of technical sergeant. Ossining Police Chief Joseph Burton Announces Retirement OSSINING, N.Y. – Ossining Police Chief Joseph Burton has announced his retirement from an almost 50-year police career, lohud.com is reporting. Burton's last day on the job will be Dec. 31, according to lohud. Burton, who was born in Yonkers, began his career in 1967. North Salem Blood Drive Honors Steven Siciliano's Memory NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The family and friends of Steven Siciliano are holding a blood drive in his memory on Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps building, 14 Daniel Road, just off Exit 8 on Interstate 684.  Siciliano died June 10, 2010, from complications after a double lung transplant required to fight cystic fibrosis.
