Rockland Recognizes 'King Of Trash' ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- He might not look like a king, but Suffern resident John LaPlaca is known as the "King of Trash," around Rockland County for helping to keep the county clean.LaPlaca has picked up more than 1,000 bags of trash from the county's roads, streams, and parks every year for the past 19 years. To honor him for his efforts, Rockland County Executive Ed Day named LaPlaca the "Outstanding Environmental Volunteer for 2017" during a special ceremony on Thursday. In addition to a plaque, a tree was planted in his honor at Kennedy-Dells County Park.

Man Caught With Crystal Meth, Methadone In Ramapo Parking Lot Stop RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police nabbed a Georgia man on Monday for possession of crystal meth after an officer checked out a car sitting in a hotel parking lot, according to Ramapo police. The unidentified 35-year-old Cartersville, Georgia man was apprehended after a Ramapo officer, who was investigating a suspicious occupied car in a hotel parking lot, walked up to the vehicle and observed a woman under a blanket and a male with an open liquor bottle, police said.  Upon further inquiries, the man admitted having methadone and a crystal meth pipe in the vehicle. To help, the Town of Ramapo is offering free untreated leaf mulch to homeowners, beginning Friday, April 21, in the afternoon, town officials said. Kathleen Wooster Elmblad, 65, Harrison Native WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. --  Kathleen Wooster Elmblad, 65, died Sunday, April 16 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., with her family and close friends at her bedside.   Elmblad was born on Nov. 7, 1951, to the late Robert B. Wooster and Kathleen C. Spence. She was raised in Harrison and attended the Rye Country Day School.  A highlight of Elmblad's youth was attending the 1965 Beatles' concert at Shea Stadium. Attending this concert exemplified a love for music that spanned and influenced her entire life, from the Beatles to supporting the local KAFM station in Grand Junction. …
