Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Englewood Homeowner Falls From Ladder An Englewood homeowner was hospitalized Friday morning after falling from atop a ladder outside his house. The 60-something Lafayette Place homeowner was semi-conscious after falling while doing work on his house shortly before 9:45 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, the deputy chief said.

Prosecutor: Husband Helped Union County Woman Embezzle $100,000 From Bergen Business A Union County woman embezzled $100,000 from a Bergen County company with her husband’s help, said authorities who busted both. Kristine Whiting, 44, of North Plainfield took business checks from her former employer and either cashed them or deposited them into bank accounts in hers or her husband’s name, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Optimum Employee, 24, Hit By Car In Hackensack An Optimum service tech was bleeding from the forehead and complaining of pain after she was struck by a car in Hackensack on Friday, authorities said. ICE: Accused WNY Gunman In Cliffside Park Shooting May Be In US Illegally Federal authorities slapped a detainer on a West New York resident accused of shooting a man in the back in Cliffside Park two weeks ago. Josue Orellana, 18, was brought Thursday to the Bergen County Jail following extradition proceedings in Pennsylvania, where he was captured on Sept. 11 by a strike force led by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. Little Ferry PD: Moonachie Man Randomly Attacks Girl On Street Little Ferry police captured a 20-year-old Moonachie man who they said randomly attacked a teenage girl on the street. Alexander Medina was charged with assault and child endangerment following the unprovoked attack on Velock Drive around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Detective Lt. Ronald Klein Jr. said. Out-Of-Control Sedan Goes Over Wall, Slams Into Hackensack Apartment Building Support Column An out-of-control sedan hit a parked car, barreled through a fence, cleared a three-foot wall and finally slammed into the portico of a Hackensack apartment building Thursday afternoon.
