Plans For $97M Route 17 Bottleneck Project Revealed
Preliminary plans for the $97 million Route 17 Bottlebeck Project have been released, and county officials are urging the public to weigh in. A third lane of travel, additional bridges, and improvements to some local streets are among the changes that Bergen County officials hope will relieve some of the congestion along the highway running through Paramus, Rochelle Park and Maywood. NJ Man Missing From Lehigh University
Officials at Lehigh University are seeking the public's help in locating a missing student. Daniel Lee, a second-year engineering student from New Jersey, was reported missing Friday, Jan. 20. Foul play is not suspected. Daniel is a university center facilities work-study student. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt with red sleeves, black-and-white athletic-type pants, and black sneakers. Philly Pops Evicted From Kimmel Center Over Missed Payment: Report
A missed payment to the Kimmel Center of $520,000 is what got the nation's largest standalone orchestra evicted, 6abc reports. Philly Pops allegedly missed a payment deadline and has been forced to cancel all upcoming shows, the outlet said. The alleged eviction comes after years of the center working with the orchestra financially. Philly Pops COO Karen Corbin tells 6abc that selling tickets was the payment plan, so without any upcoming shows, making the payments is even more difficult. Teen Sexually Assaulted Peer At Atlantic City HS: Police
A 16-year-old Atlantic City High School student was arrested for sexually assaulting a peer, authorities said. The victim reported the assault in January 2022, prompting an investigation, Atlantic City police said. Upon return of a forensic analysis of the collected evidence from the investigation, charges were approved by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office on Jan. 12. 2023. The boy was arrested in Galloway Township the following day on charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The juvenile was remanded to Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center. Volunteer Youth Coach Sexually Assaulted Female Players: Philadelphia Police
A 38-year-old volunteer youth sports coach has been charged with the sexual assaults of two teen players, authorities in Philadelphia said. Timothy Foster, of the Port Richmond Tigers Sports Association, assaulted the victims on multiple occasions, some of which were inside of his Chatham Street home, 6abc says citing police. Authorities believe there could be more victims. Foster has been accused of "multiple sexual assaults that occurred with minors while coaching youth basketball and softball teams," the PPD said. Regal Cinemas Closing 2 NJ Locations
Two New Jersey Regal Cinemas locations will shutter after parent company Cineworld filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Cineworld in a new bankruptcy filing this week announced it would be rejecting the leases of 39 theaters closing in the US, helping to save $22 million a year. Escaped, 'Violent' Psych Patient Sought In Mercer County
A 54-year-old man being held on a burglary charge was being sought after he escaped from Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, authorities said. Roger Brown left the hospital around 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, Ewing police said. Police dispatch was notified by NJ Human Services Police about 25 minutes later. Authorities believe Brown walked away from the pharmacy area of TPH towards Stuyvesant Avenue. He was last seen wearing black pants, a blue hooded sweatshirt, and black shoes. A teen and four men were arrested for separate shootings and weapons offenses in Newark, authorities announced. A 16-year-old from East Orange was charged with weapon possession after a female victim walked into University Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound on Jan. 2, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Barber Busted With Cocaine, $20K In Bergen Traffic Stop: Prosecutor
A 29-year-old driver from Rhode Island was found during a Bergen County traffic stop with $20,000 and two kilograms of cocaine, authorities said. Izander Lopez-Cruz, a barber, was stopped on Wednesday, Jan. 18 and later charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and money laundering, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Allendale Officer Pretended To Be In Crash So Real Driver Could Get Away: Prosecutor
An Allendale police officer from Mahwah has been charged with hindering apprehension after he took responsibility as the driver in an accident so that the real driver could leave, authorities said. Victor T. Bartoloma, 35, told the Ridgewood officer arriving at the scene that he was the one who'd been in the crash on Jan. 15, but he really had brought his personal vehicle to the scene so that the individual initially in the accident could drive off, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
