North Jersey Dad Who Died After Three-Week Cancer Fight Lived 'Rags To Riches' Tale North Jersey father and businessman Talath Witharane died after a three-week battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, according to his obituary. He was 50 years old. Witharane, of Franklin Lakes, met his wife, Erin, 21 years ago on a blind date, and together they raised their two children Evyn, 15, and Harry, 12. According to his obituary, Witharane "led the quintessential American rags to riches story." $50K Powerball Winner Sold At Passaic County Liquor Store A lottery ticket from the Monday, Aug. 29 Powerball drawing good for $50,000 was sold in Passaic County. The ticket wins the third-tier prize and was sold at Limonta Liquors, 293 Vernon Ave., in Clifton. The winning numbers for the Monday, August 29, drawing were: 13, 36, 43, 61, and 69. The Red Power Ball number was 18. The Power Play was 3X. There were 12,968 other New Jersey players who took home an estimated $79,997 in prizes ranging from $4 to $300. The Powerball jackpot rolls to $134,000,000 for the Wednesday, Aug. 31, drawing.

One Dead, Two Wounded In Newark Shooting One person was killed and two others hurt in a Newark shooting overnight, authorities said. Abdul Crowley, 23, was found with gunshot wounds on the 100 block of Mitchell Place around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. Crowley was taken to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m. Two other shooting victims, a male and a female, were taken to the Center for treatment. Woodbridge Victim Killed In Overnight Rahway Hit-Run: Police A Woodbridge Township resident was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash overnight in Rahway, authorities said. The unidentified individual was found at the intersection of St. George’s and W. Inman avenues around 3 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, Rahway Police Sgt. Michael Daikalo said. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan with tinted windows, and is believed to be a Nissan. 'Suspicious Death' Probed In Burlington County Authorities have launched what they say is a "suspicious death" investigation after a woman's body was found in a Burlington County home, they said. The unidentified woman's body was found sometime in the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 29 in a home on the 200 block of Birch Hollow Drive in Florence Township, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said. No arrests have been made, however, the general public was not believed to be at risk. No further information was being released.

SWAT Team Helps Capture Gunman Wanted In Bar Shooting, 2nd Suspect At Large: Linden PD The Union County SWAT Team helped in capture a 27-year-old man accused of opening fire at a nightclub and wounding three people, while a second suspect remains at large, authorities said. Najir Paige got into a fight at the bar at Menga Lounge in Linden when he left, got a handgun from a car, came back and fired shots through the front door around 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, Linden police said. US Marshals Nab DC Murder Suspect In Florida: Police A man wanted for killing a Washington DC mom of five last month was nabbed by US Marshals agents in Florida, authorities said. Wonell A. Jones, Jr., 34, had been wanted for killing 33-year-old Audora Williams on the 2900 block of Knox Place, Southeast Tuesday, July 19, DC Metro Police Chief Robert J. Contee II said.
