Dan Alon one of the five survivors of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, began fencing when he was 12. At 27, he was among 15 fellow Israeli athletes to compete at the 1972 Winter Olympics. On Sept. 5, at 4:30 a.m. Alon awoke to the sound of machine guns. The Palestinian terrorist group Black September had invaded their suite in Olympic Village and seized 11 of the athletes as hostages. Westchester's Jeffrey Tambor Wins Best Actor At Critics Choice
CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- Cross River resident Jeffrey Tambor won Best Actor at the 21st annual Critics' Choice Awards. Tambor accepted his award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his work in "Transparent," presented by Thomas Middleditch and Carrie Brownstein, at the 21st Annual Critics' Choice Awards which aired live. Sunday, Jan. 17. Tambor portrays Maura Pfefferman in the series. In his acceptance speech, Tambor said his father told him to "be useful" and among those he thanked said, "Thank you for the transgender community for letting me be useful."

Pavilion Bids Out Tops Village Manager's Report
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- A request for proposals to dismantle the “super structure” of the pool pavilion at Law Memorial Park in Briarcliff Manor down to its stone faced concrete piers is out for bid, according to Village Manager Philip E. Westport Advocates Aim Is To Preserve Saugatuck River Bridge
WESTPORT, Conn. -- Support for activists aiming to gain "State Scenic Highway" status for Route 136, which crosses the Saugatuck River Bridge in Westport, gained unanimous approval from the town's Planning and Zoning Commission, according to the Westport News.If the designation is granted it would preserve the bridge from expansion in the future, according to the Westport News. Passaic Tennis Courts Renamed For Longtime Coach, Teacher
PASSAIC, N.J. -- The City of Passaic has renamed the Benson Tennis Courts in honor of William Major, a 40-year teacher and longtime tennis coach. “It is my privilege to rename these tennis courts in honor of William Major.
