Ex-Marshal From Suffern Will Go To Prison For Deadly Shooting Lies
SUFFERN, N.Y. -- A former U.S. marshal, a Suffern resident, received a 15-month federal prison sentence for lying to police following his deadly shooting of a man in California, according to lohud.com. Matthew Itkowitz, 47, was sentenced for obstruction of justice, after a U.S. District Court jury in Los Angeles found him guilty in July, said the lohud.com article. Stamford Woman Accused Of Falsely Reporting Her Kidnapping
STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford police charged a woman Tuesday with falsely reporting that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and an accomplice, according to police. Mercedes Irizarry, 25, was charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident and interfering with police and held on a $25,000 bond. Her arrest stemmed from a Nov. 7 incident in which Irizarry claimed that she was kidnapped at knifepoint on Adams Avenue by her ex-boyfriend and an accomplice, according to Stamford police. POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- William George Ostrom (Billy the Kid) died at his home, Thursday, Dec. 3. He was 95.Ostrom was born March 7, 1920, to George and Cora (Silvernail) Ostrom, one of 10 children, and attended city schools. He was a lifetime lover of baseball and the New York Yankees. Ostrom left school at 16 when he was signed to play semipro ball with Corning of the Canadian/American league (later bought by the Boston Red Sox). Suffern Village Clerk Since 1958 Faces Uncertain Future
SUFFERN, N.Y. -- The village clerk in Suffern since 1963 is 94-year-old Virginia Menschner, who will continue to serve the village, but not likely in the same way, according to lohud.com.The change is part of a "budget-balancing" review of government operations by new Mayor Edward Markunas, lohud.com says. Suffern's budget deficit was a main campaign issue with a reported budget hole of around $2.5 million, according to lohud.com. EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Students at Tuckahoe Middle School are gearing up for the holidays and, in doing so, invite senior citizens to attend the dress rehearsal of its upcoming winter concert.The dress rehearsal is set for Thursday, Dec. 17, at 8:45 a.m. in the auditorium.
