GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt Named Among Most Powerful People In The World FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, who lives in New Canaan, has been named among "The World's Most Powerful People" by Forbes magazine. Immelt, 59, is ranked No. 24 on the Forbes list, which ranks Russian President Vladimir Putin as the world's most powerful person, followed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Barack Obama. GE is headquartered in Fairfield and is the ninth biggest public company in the world, says the magazine. Witness Haunted By Fatal Valhalla Train Crash VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Rick Hope, who witnessed the Feb. 3 fatal Valhalla train crash in Valhalla, is haunted by what he saw and has difficulty talking about it, according to lohud.com.Hope was witness to the Mercedes SUV in front of him being hit by a Metro North train at the crossing in Valhalla in which the driver, Ellen Brody, 49, of Edgemont, was instantly killed. The train crash also claimed the lives of five train passengers and 15 were injured. Hope occasionally asks himself if there was anything he could have done to prevent the tragedy, says the report. Bethel Man Charged With DUI After Driving Up Median In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. -- A 41-year-old Bethel man was charged early Saturday with DUI after an officer saw him drive up onto a grass median after running a red light on Post Road East in Westport, according to police.At 1:35 a.m. Dec. 5, an officer saw a vehicle drive through a red light at the intersection of Post Road East and the Sherwood Island Connector, police say. Man Charged With Trying To Return Stolen Items To Westport Men's Store WESTPORT, Conn. -- A 27-year-old Hartford man was charged Friday with attempting to return stolen items to the Allen Edmonds men's store in Westport, according to police. The man, identified as Damian Bullock, was the subject of a weeklong investigation into stolen merchandise at the 69 Main St. men's footwear and accessory store, police say. Police Arrest Man Asleep In Car At Monroe Intersection MONROE, Conn. – A man reportedly was found sleeping in his car Sunday night with its engine on at a main Monroe intersection, according to the Connecticut Post. Police responded to a report of the vehicle, not moving at the Route 111 and Elm Street intersection at 11:19 p.m., says the Post report. The man in the driver’s seat, 23-year old Matthew Rontondo, of Monroe, reportedly had a couple of heroin bags that were empty in his car, according to the Connecticut Post.
