Custodian Worked In Ossining School Despite Sex Abuse Charges A custodian worked at Brookside Elementary School in Ossining, while being charged and eventually convicted of sexually abusing a minor in Poughkeepsie, Ossining Union Free School District Superintendent Raymond Sanchez said. Samuel Campbell was convicted and sent to prison on May 1, Sanchez said. Campbell was arrested in April 2016 and was not arraigned until February, 2017, Sanchez said.   Sanchez said Campbell never told the district he had been arrested, charged and tried. Putnam Legislature Appoints New Counsel PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Robert Firriolo is the new legislative counsel for the Putnam County Legislature. Firriolo, who lives in Carmel, was appointed unanimously May 25. His post runs through Dec. 31. Firriolo is currently a partner at Boutin Altieri where he practices litigation, with a concentration in commercial, insurance, firearms and environmental matters. He volunteers with the Knights of Columbus in Carmel and the Boy Scouts in Patterson. Firrolo replaces Clement Van Ross, whose contract was not renewed.

Yorktown Teen Grabs Throat, Steals Property From Woman, Police Say YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A Yorktown teen was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors following a domestic incident Tuesday. Ryan Thomas, 19, was arrested and charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a Class A Misdemeanor and Petit Larceny, a Class A Misdemeanor after police allege he grabbed the throat of the victim and stole property from her. Thomas voluntarily turned himself where he was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on June 13. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

Indian Point Sirens Will Sound At Full Volume During Test Don't be alarmed if you hear sirens Wednesday.Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan is conducting a quarterly test of its emergency notification sirens on Wednesday between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. As part of this test, sirens will sound at full-volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Putnam counties, according to Entergy, who runs Indian Point. Because this is only a test, the public is not required to respond during the siren sounding.

An 8-week old kitten was rescued Monday after spending five days in a drain pipe outside of an Edgemont home. Stephanie Balkin first heard the kittens frightened meows on Thursday but the kitten refused to leave the drain. "It just wouldn't come out," Balkin said. "We put some food out for it, but it just wouldn't come out."
