Scarsdale Library Examines 'The Bronx, The Way It Was'
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Steve Samtur, a Scarsdale resident and the editor as well as publisher for 23 years of the magazine Back In The Bronx, will reminisce about the earlier days of the borough in a program, “The Bronx, The Way It Was,” at the Scarsdale Pubic Library on Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. Before it became synonymous with urban decay and “The Bronx Is Burning,” the borough was a vibrant middle-class community with classic apartment buildings on the elegant Champs Elysees-inspired Grand Concourse, shopping galore on Fordham Road and taking dates to Jahn’s Ice Cream Parlor.
