Yonkers Seeks Firefighter Union Records
YONKERS, N.Y. -- The city of Yonkers is seeking records from a firefighters union's benefits fund and has filed papers in state Supreme Court in that pursuit, according to lohud.com. The city wants a contractor to audit the Variable Benefits Fund of Local 628 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, which has been cited for poor records in the past. The filing, which took place July 1, asks the court to order the fund to turn over 2014 spending records, according to lohud.com. Al Roker Helps In Search For New SUNY Chancellor
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Al Roker has been tapped by the State University of New York system to help in the upcoming search for a new chancellor to replace Nancy Zimpher, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. The SUNY Oswego alumnus is one of 22 people who will make up the search committee to find a new head of the 64-campus public university system, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Police Seek Missing Woman Charged With Theft At Cortlandt Walmart
CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- A 55-year-old woman is wanted by the State Police and Town of Cortlandt Court following her November 2015 arrest. Jean M. Rodrigues stole more than $500 in merchandise from the store and threatened with a gun to avoid being arrested in June of 2015, according to state police. A warrant was issued in June 2016 after she failed to appear for court proceedings. She is described as being 5-foot-5, 150 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The city of White Plains opened a new playground and fitness area at Kittrell Park on July 8, according to The Examiner. The playground is a replacement and is fully accessible for children ages 2-12. Elected officials in 15 municipalities across Westchester County gave themselves raises in the last year, according to lohud.com. Almost one-third of the 45 local governments gave increases in pay to the supervisor or mayor, council members or trustees and in some cases both for the first time in many years, reported lohud.com. More Than 40 Cats Rescued From House Fire In Beacon
BEACON, N.Y. -- In excess of 40 cats were brought to the Mid-Hudson Animal Aid Center on Tuesday after firefighters found 70 of them when responding to a house fire in Beacon, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Firefighters arrived at a home on Crescent Drive after 7 p.m. to smoke coming from a home on the block. Water Main Break Impacts Hundreds Of Tarrytown Residents
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- A water main break on South Broadway in Tarrytown led to gallons of water all over the street on Tuesday morning, according to News 12. The break was a result of a construction worker hitting a 10-inch main buried four-feet underground some time around 11:30 a.m. impacting a corporate office building and two apartment complexes, according to News 12.
