472 Bears Killed In NJ Hunt; Season Reopens Wednesday NORTH PASSAIC, N.J. -- Thirty-one additional bears were killed Friday, a day before the New Jersey annual hunt ended, the state Department of Environmental Protection reported, according to nj.com. By Saturday, 51 more bears had been taken in the northern part of New Jersey, NJ.com says. The majority of bears killed as of Friday were from rural Sussex County, while one, its first and only bear killed there, came from Bergen County, the report says.
